Fundisha Center Inc

The Fundisha Center Inc. is dedicated to improving the educational outcomes for Black children in the Capital District by recruiting and developing black teachers and providing community based culturally centered supplemental educational programing to youth in the Capital District.  The center was founded in 2022 to address the urgent need to improve the Black teacher pipeline. Founder  & Executive Director

S. Neal Currie Jr. a longtime educator in the Capital District with over 33 years of experience working with youth in the Capital District as a teacher, principal and developer and coordinator of educational, social, cultural and recreational programs. He is the founding principal and former executive director of the Albany Community Charter School (ACCS), founded in 2006. In 2012 ACCS was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the US Department of Education. He has extensive experience developing both teachers and school leaders to produce excellent outcomes for Black and low-income students.

Having at least one Black teacher in elementary school cuts the high school dropout rates of low-income Black boys by 39% and raises college aspirations among poor students of both sexes by 19%.
